Band Of The Week: The Noisettes

This is Band Of The Week a series of posts a about alternative girls of color in bands. It will be famous bands, independant bands and local bands. It will include a biography, songs, album reviews by me and music videos. I will post a new band each week, so stay tuned because I might be writing about your favorite band!


This week I will be writing about Shingai Shinowa from the indie rock band The Noisettes.

BIOGRAPHY

Shingai Shinowa is  an Zimbawawian descendent who was born on September 22, 1981 in London, England. In childhood, she was raised with her twin sister ,Shorai Shoniwa, ( now a tv presenter). At age 11, she faced the devastating loss of her father. Her single mother remarried and the family lived in South London. As a teenager, Shingai studied circus skills at a Youth club in London. After graduation, she attended an art school and the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology in Croydon. At school, she befriended Dan Smith and the two formed The Noisettes in 2003. Shingai is a lead singer and also plays guitar, cello and bass. Dan Smith is a guitarist.
